NICG CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE FOR NEW YEAR 2011

05/01/2011 Leave a comment

Greetings to all friends of NICG:

Reflecting on 2010 makes me want to send my deepest thanks to all the friends of NICG who have helped make this a memorable year of progress for our rapidly growing company.

Throughout the past year and looking into the future the mission that inspired the foundation of NICG, to communicate across cultures, is a constant source of energy that inspires our continued progress. The events of 2010 have demonstrated the vital need that drives the NICG vision: helping business, organisations and government around the world gain deeper and much more effective dialogue with China, and China with the world.

Prime Minister David Cameron on his official visit to China on November 10th superbly summarised the potential to be gained from effective dialogue and resulting opportunities: “Just think about some of the prizes that the rise of China could help to bring within our grasp. Strong, and sustainable growth for the global economy. Vital progress on the Doha trade round which could add $170 billion to the global economy. A real chance to get back on track towards a legally binding deal on emissions. Unprecedented progress in tackling poverty.”

Looking back through 2010 I believe this was a year when the business model of NICG really began to demonstrate its power and effectiveness. NICG’s four core divisions of Communications, Consultancy, VIP Travel, and Investment proved their ability to integrate for the benefit of all our clients.

In VIP travel we have extended our reach beyond Europe and the US, working with some of China’s most senior business leaders and politicians facilitating visits to Central and South America, Eastern Europe, and Australasia.

NICG is proud to have facilitated some of the year’s highlight China-UK events in the UK and China in the sectors of banking, new energy, cultural exchange and more – including the UK road show of EXPO NOW which travelled to London, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Kew Gardens.

Highlights of 2010 in communications include winning several major ‘Go in’ China communications projects for Western clients from government and business. NICG has proven its ability on the ground as a leader in Chinese-international communications.

A marked trend in 2010 was in the area of investment. During 2010 NICG was able to demonstrate its abilities to support investors both coming into China and going out of China. I believe NICG is the only truly effective communications and investment group providing understanding and links across the Chinese borders as we understand the challenges faced by companies on both sides.

Looking forward into 2011 there is compelling evidence that we can build on the success of NICG. For investors coming into China the growth potential is very exciting. Wise foreign investors coming into China look at the forces creating urban areas needed to absorb an expected 300 million Chinese people moving from countryside to cities during the next twenty years.

For investors going out of China The Economist Newspaper in its 11th November 2010 issue provided insight into the potential for NICG supporting Chinese business “going out” into the world: “Control of the world’s stock of foreign direct investment (FDI), which includes takeovers and companies’ greenfield investments, tends to reflect a country’s economic muscle. Britain owned 45% of the world’s FDI in 1914; America’s share peaked at 50% in 1967. Today China, including Hong Kong and Macau, has a share of just 6%.” There is great potential for this percentage to rise driven by China’s high savings and Chinese companies often have surplus cash and banks surplus deposits. Also many Chinese firms are already some of the world’s biggest, such as its banks, and account for over a tenth of global stock market value; but most Chinese businesses are still mainly domestic outfits and invest very little in their own R&D business – a further opportunity for international collaboration.

So I predict bright prospects lie ahead in 2011 for NICG and its growing numbers of clients and team of professionals!  At NICG we are fortunate to have a great team and I take this opportunity to thank you all for all your dedication and hard work during 2010 in supporting success for our clients.

Finally I wish all of you a very happy and successful 2011 and we at NICG look forward to another ground breaking year during 2011.

With warmest best wishes,

Chris Yang
